Belarus President meets with Prime Minister of Cambodia
Belarus sees great opportunities to expand cooperation with Cambodia, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said he met with Prime Minister of Cambodia Hun Sen on 23 April.
Aleksandr Lukashenko pointed out that Cambodia is the fastest growing and fastest developing country in Southeast Asia. “We have great expectations from cooperation with your country,” the Belarusian leader said.
The President noted that there are many areas of common interest between Belarus and Cambodia, as well as a number of projects that can be implemented together. “We have what you need and we are ready to offer you that, be it joint ventures to manufacture vehicles, or cooperation in the defense industry or mining,” the Belarusian head of state said.
Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that the parties have already made some progress. A joint venture to produce tractors has opened in 2014. Now Belarusian tractors account for nearly half of all tractors used in Cambodia.
“We are ready to purchase products that are popular in Belarus, but cannot grow in our climate. We will buy these products with great pleasure to balance out the bilateral trade,” the President noted.
The Cambodian Premier expressed hope that his visit will make a contribution to the expansion of the bilateral contacts. There are plans to sign nine agreements and one joint communiquй. Hun Sen said that when he visited Belarus for the first time in 1981, he saw that Belarus was developing rapidly. He also told Aleksandr Lukashenko that the King of Cambodia invites him to pay an official visit to the country.
