Meeting with Egypt Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Hassan Shoukry

Belarus will fulfill all agreements with Egypt, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he met with Egypt Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Hassan Shoukry on 28 August.

The head of state said that the negotiations which took place during the official visit to Egypt in January 2017 were productive. “That was a good and, I hope, very successful visit. Back then the Egyptian President and I reached an agreement on many things. Your visit is very important, it is a landmark visit because it reminds us about our agreements. High-level visits of the Belarusian government to Egypt or the Egyptian government to Belarus mean a lot in the implementation of agreements which were reached during the talks. I think that Belarus will be useful in the economic growth and development of Egypt,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

“I would like to assure you that we will fulfill all our agreements. Everything will depend on you, the Egyptian people. We can build our presence in Egypt as soon as you wish,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

The President invited his Egyptian counterpart to visit Belarus at any convenient time.

Affairs Sameh Hassan Shoukry confirmed that Egypt views the relations with Belarus as important and hopes to reap the benefits they can bring for the economic development.

He also stressed Belarus’ contribution to the peaceful settlement of regional conflicts. “We we welcome your efforts to promote and develop Belarus, to ensure stability, to enable favorable conditions and progress in Belarus and in the region in general. Your contribution the peaceful settlement of regional conflicts is noteworthy, too. This shows your wisdom, your understanding of how important peaceful settlement is,” Sameh Shoukry noted.

The visit of Sameh Hassan Shoukry is the first visit of the Egyptian minister of foreign affairs to Belarus in the history of bilateral relations and is viewed as a stage in the preparations for the official visit of the Egyptian President to Belarus.
