Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko met with Turkey President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Istanbul to suggest updating the agenda of the Belarusian-Turkish cooperation, reloading some areas of interest with the focus on trade and economy.
“It is high time we update the agenda of cooperation, adjust the roadmap of our relations,” said the Belarusian head of state.
Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed that Belarus is open to cooperation with Turkey.
The two leaders agreed that the issues discussed at the meeting would get practical development during the forthcoming meeting of the Belarusian-Turkish intergovernmental commission in May. The Presidents talked over the prospects for increasing Turkish investment in Belarus, more active cooperation in tourism, including through increasing the number of flights between the two countries.
The Belarus President thanked Recep Tayyip Erdogan for the invitation to the summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), emphasizing the importance for Belarus to attend such a large-scale forum. According to Aleksandr Lukashenko, the summit will also promote the establishment of new contacts to boost trade and economic cooperation with a number of countries.
In turn, Recep Tayyip Erdogan noted that such high-level meetings make a big contribution to the development of bilateral relations. In his words, Belarus is an island of stability in the region.
The Turkish President confirmed his readiness to pay a visit to Belarus, which agenda is to be discussed during the forthcoming meeting of the intergovernmental commission.
The leaders also discussed the international agenda.
