Meeting with first Russian President Boris Yeltsin
On 21 June 2002 Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko met with first President of the Russian Federation Boris Yeltsin who visited Belarus at the invitation of the Belarusian head of state.
According to Aleksandr Lukashenko, Boris Yeltsin’s visit to Belarus ahead of the day marking the start of the Great Patriotic War and the joint visit to the Brest Hero Fortress memorial complex became a good tradition. The first Russian leader admitted that he liked Belarus very much and had visited the country five times. Boris Yeltsin called the Union State Treaty of 8 December 1999 the main achievement of bilateral cooperation.
