Meeting with national biathlon team of Belarus

On 15 February 1996, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko hosted the Belarusian biathletes after the IBU world championships in Ruhpolding. Belarus won a gold medal in the men’s team even, bronze medals in the men’s relay and individual race. “You have become the heroes of the day. They talk more about you in the world than about our official delegations, even more than about me, the president. But I am not jealous. Together with millions of viewers I was rooting for you. Your awards are doubly valuable as you have won them competing against strong rivals,” the head of state said.

To win in sports, we need four components: training conditions, traditions, coaching staff and focus on the highest result, the president noted. He highlighted the importance of having good health and some of the ways to achieve it are an active lifestyle and sports.
