Visit to Holy Spirit Cathedral in Minsk

Belarus will always be peaceful and calm, President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he visited the Holy Spirit Cathedral in Minsk on 7 January.

The head of state wished Merry Christmas to all Belarusians. He also wished kindness and peace in families, in the country, and especially in souls.

The President thanked the Church for the great contribution to the strengthening of peace and accord in the Belarusian land. Aleksandr Lukashenko extended his warmest greetings and stressed: “You can rely on the state, the authorities. You can be sure that our country will always be peaceful and calm. We guarantee it.”

The head of state noted: “I think that this complicated year will be successful for us thanks for the kindness of our people and their wish to live in peace in the God-given land.”

“I congratulate all Belarusians, our friends, brothers, neighbors. I wish peace and kindness to them, and especially I wish peace to out southern neighbor. We will do our best to enhance peace and accord in the souls and hearts of these fraternal people,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

The President lit a candle for the Icon of the Mother of God of Minsk together with his younger son Nikolai.

Metropolitan of Minsk and Zaslavl Pavel, Patriarchal Exarch of all Belarus presented the revered Icon of the Mother of God “Of the Three Hands” which was brought from the Athos.

Aleksandr Lukashenko gave the Belarusian Orthodox Church a souvenir panel picture. It depicts the Cathedral of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross in Polotsk. The panel picture is made of silver with the use of the embossing technique. Built in 1893, the Cathedral of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross is part of St. Euphrosyne Monastery in Polotsk. The cathedral holds the relics of Saint Euphrosyne of Polotsk.
