Victory Day greetings of the President of the Republic of Belarus

    Dear fellow countrymen,

I cordially congratulate you on Victory Day.

“This holiday, which is an embodiment of fortitude and courage of the Soviet people, takes a special place in the life of every Belarusian.

The Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 claimed millions of lives and became an appalling tragedy for all Soviet people. We bow our heads honoring the fallen.

In times of severe hardships the Belarusians together with the brotherly nations of the Soviet Union, allies of the anti-Hitler coalition stopped the spread of fascism, kept faith that the good would prevail over the evil, and victory over the aggressor was inevitable and gave every nation an opportunity to choose its own path of development.

Blizzards of that horrible war hammered away long time ago. The decades of peace and creation let us rebuild destroyed cities and villages, turn our wounded Belarusian land into bloomy fields and gardens, build a prosperous state where one can live, learn and work without fear, be confident about the future.

The greatness of this Victory and the immortal exploit of the victors’ generation will never dwindle. Eternal glory to the heroes.

Dear veterans, I wish you strong health. Happiness and peaceful skies to you, fellow countrymen.

    Aleksandr Lukashenko
