On 4 July 2000 Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko took part in a memorial ceremony on the occasion of the demise of People’s Artist of the USSR, Belarusian movie and theater actor Nikolai Yeremenko (senior). Hundreds of people came to the Yanka Kupala National Academic Theater to pay last respects to the famous Belarusian.
