Victory Day celebrations

On 9 May 1997 Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko took part in a solemn procession on the occasion of Victory Day. Together with veterans of the Great Patriotic War, representatives of public associations, the clergy and diplomats, the head of state proceeded along the central avenue of the capital to Victory Square, where he laid flowers at the Victory Monument and paid tribute to the war victims with a minute's silence. On the same day, Aleksandr Lukashenko laid wreaths at the monument to veterans of foreign wars on the Island of Tears in the Trinity Suburb.
