On 6 July 1996 Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko took part in the festival I Love Minsk.

The festival kicked off at the Palace of Sports at noon. The head of state attended the event to congratulate Minsk residents. After a short greeting, he took a walk around a trade fair, and then paid a visit to the Maxim Gorky Central Park. The president talked to people much longer than it was initially planned. The abundance of questions turned Aleksandr Lukashenko's participation in the festival into a so-called people's press conference.
