Telephone conversation between Aleksandr Lukashenko and Vladimir Putin

    On 7 August President of the Republic of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko and President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation at the initiative of the Russian side.

    The Russian President informed Aleksandr Lukashenko about the economic measures which were taken by Russia in relation to certain categories of products imported from the countries which had imposed sanctions against Russian organizations and citizens. Vladimir Putin expressed hope that Belarus will understand such measures which aim to protect Russia’s economic security.

    The Belarusian President, for his part, remarked that full transparency relying on partnership will be ensured on the border.

    The heads of state also discussed cooperation in the Eurasian Economic Union and the prospects of its expansion. They agreed that Armenia’s accession to the union should not do harm to the Customs Union.

    Aleksandr Lukashenko and Vladimir Putin also shared opinions regarding the development of the situation in Ukraine due to the signing of the association agreement with the European Union.
