Aleksandr Lukashenko congratulates foreign leaders on Victory Day

Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko has sent greetings to foreign leaders on the occasion of the 78th anniversary of the Great Victory.

Aleksandr Lukashenko sent congratulatory messages to Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev, Armenia President Vahagn Khachaturyan, Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Kyrgyzstan President Sadyr Japarov, Russia President Vladimir Putin, Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon, Turkmenistan President Serdar Berdimuhamedow, and Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev as well as to the peoples of Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine.

In his message to Russia President Vladimir Putin the head of state noted that the road of the Soviet soldier to the Great Victory was difficult and lengthy, saturated with the blood of those, who fell in battles, forged with the selfless labor of homefront workers, and full of the pain of irreparable losses, unbelievable hardships and deprivations.

The president stressed: “I know how your country carefully preserves memory about every hero, how heroic deeds of the soldiers, who saved mankind from elimination and slavery, are honored. Our duty to ancestors is to resolutely counteract attempts to revive ideas of Nazism, glorify war criminals and their accomplices, and falsify the truth about World War Two. I am convinced we will have enough tenacity, courage, and wisdom to overcome hardships and win. Selfless dedication to the high ideals of service to the Fatherland has always been and remains a moral guideline for the peoples of Belarus and Russia.”

Addressing the people of Georgia, Aleksandr Lukashenko reminded that in the harsh years of trials Belarusians and Georgians courageously overcame terrible deprivations and suffered irreparable losses as they stood shoulder to shoulder to repulse the deadly threat of enslavement by fascists. “We honor the memory of the heroes, who selflessly fought for freedom and a happy future of future generations. Their heroic deed is an example of unbendable tenacity and unreserved courage that encourages us to preserve and multiply traditions of friendship, good neighborhood, and mutual aid,” the head of state noted.

The president said he was convinced that Belarusian-Georgian relations are connected by sincere human sympathy, by the joint history and common Christian values and will continue developing successfully in the spirit of creative partnership.

The address to the people of Moldova reads: “The further we are from the unforgettable May 1945, the more grandiose the unprecedented heroic deed of the multiethnic Soviet nation looks. In this date triumph and sorrow, joy and tears of millions of people are inseparably intertwined. They did not spare their lives in the fight for freedom and then they worked together to restore the common Fatherland from ruins and ashes.”

Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed that the common historical memory about the heroic fight against fascism represents a solid foundation for successful development of friendly Belarusian-Moldovan relations, for enhancing the mutual understanding between the two countries.

In his greetings to the people of Ukraine Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that thanks to selflessness, courage, and patriotism Belarusians and Ukrainians together with other USSR peoples managed to endure the dreadful years of the war and save the world from Nazism.

The message reads: “With great respect we preserve the memory about the heroism of your compatriots, who helped liberate Belarus and gave their lives in exchange for the country’s freedom. With great regret and sorrow we see that your country is going through a difficult period of trials and suffering. I wish all the residents of Ukraine long-awaited peace in your land, happiness, and prosperity.”

The president also congratulated Prime Minister of Russia Mikhail Mishustin, Chairwoman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia Valentina Matviyenko, Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of Russia Vyacheslav Volodin, and Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Kirill on Victory Day.
