Aleksandr Lukashenko sends Victory Day greetings to foreign leaders

Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko has sent greetings to foreign leaders on the occasion of the 77th anniversary of the Great Victory.

Aleksandr Lukashenko has wished a Happy Victory Day to Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev, Armenia President Vahagn Khachaturyan, Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Kyrgyzstan President Sadyr Japarov, Moldova President Maia Sandu, Russia President Vladimir Putin, Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon, Turkmenistan President Serdar Berdimuhamedow, Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Georgia President Salome Zourabichvili, and the people of Ukraine.

In a message of greetings addressed to Russian President Vladimir Putin the head of state remarked that Victory Day has a special importance for Belarusians and Russians. “In a deadly fight against fascism our fathers and grandfathers paid an enormous price and sacrificed a lot to defend peace and liberate Europe from enslavement,” the message of greetings reads.

“Decades pass, generations change, but the Great Victory as a symbol of national pride, military glory and mutual support lives in the hearts of millions of people,” the head of state remarked. “Today’s dramatic events vividly demonstrate that only together, cherishing the memory of the heroic and tragic days of the Great Patriotic War, realizing the importance of its lessons, we can efficiently respond to modern challenges and threats.”

In a message of greetings addressed to the people of Ukraine Aleksandr Lukashenko noted: “In this difficult time not only for Ukraine but also for the entire Europe, like never before we feel the value of peace and stability. Tragic events taking place in Ukraine show that the hideous experience which was accumulated in the first half of the 20th century no longer means anything for many people. Soviet people went through severe ordeals and suffering playing a crucial role in the defeat of fascism and liberating the whole world from the brown plague. Today no one will be able to falsify the historic truth, to diminish the role of our ancestors in the defeat of this invasion. Regardless of the political environment, we will be forever grateful to Belarusian and Ukrainian veterans of the Great Patriotic War whose heroic deeds made an invaluable contribution to the liberation of Belarus and the entire continent.”

The President Also wished a Happy Victory Day to Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, Chairperson of the Federation Council of Russia’s Federal Assembly Valentina Matviyenko, Chairman of the State Duma of Russia’s Federal Assembly Vyacheslav Volodin, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill.
