Visit to Minsk Automobile Plant

On 20 February 2003 Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko visited Minsk Automobile Plant (MAZ trademark) and held a meeting to discuss development prospects of the automotive industry of the country.

The meeting focused on two main sets of issues - production of commercials vehicles, trailers, as well as quarry and other heavy transport vehicles, construction and road vehicles and mining equipment.  The head of state agreed with proposals to set up corporate structures on the basis of MAZ and BelAZ and gave instructions to scrutinize this matter and submit appropriate proposals to him. The president emphasized that these companies would not go private.
