An effective system for the development of elite sport and training of aspiring athletes has been created in Belarus, President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at the opening ceremony of the Uruchye sports palace and the international children’s handball tournament.
The new palace of team sports of the Armed Forces of Belarus welcomes its first visitors. “This is a unique facility. There have not been similar facilities in Belarus before,” Aleksandr Lukashenko noted. “Gyms offer the best conditions for holding international tournaments and training of elite sportsmen.” They can host training sessions in handball, volleyball, basketball, futsal, tennis, and badminton. It is open for military men and other people.
The President emphasized that Belarus is interested in training young athletes and enhancing the health of youth.
According to Aleksandr Lukashenko, various elite sports competitions and children’s tournaments are held in the country. “Our main objective is to bring up healthy and strong defenders of the Fatherland able to ensure its security,” the head of state said.
According to the President, it is symbolic that this tournament is timed to the Day of Fatherland Defenders and the Armed Forces.
Aleksandr Lukashenko pointed out a huge role of sport in the strengthening of trust and friendship between nations, what, of course, helps protect peace. “I am glad to see our neighbors, foreign guests here. It is clear that countries should compete with each other only in sports arenas, not in battlegrounds,” the President concluded.
