I hope that the young generation will build on the achievements of modern Belarus, President Aleksandr Lukashenko said during a New Year charity event held in the Palace of the Republic on 28 December as part of the Our Children charity campaign.

“I know that you are smart and observant people, and you know that not all your peers on Earth can attend such parties with the participation of the president, New Year celebrations at school, etc. There are many places on our planet where children are starving. I am saying this because you need to remember. If we remember it we will value our past and present, we will create a better future. It is very important,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said. “We want you to be proud of your Motherland, we want you to protect it, to multiply the achievements of the current generation of Belarusians. This is my biggest dream, and I think you will make it come true.”

The head of state said that before this New Year party he recalled his childhood years. “My childhood was happy just like yours. We realized how many problems and challenges children had faced back then when we became older. There were many challenges, people worked hard. But you and us have one common thing: we have been waiting for this holiday and presents from Father Frost very much,” the president said.

Of course, he said that modern kids get different presents. “However, they say that attention is as important as presents. And today adults try to give presents to you, especially on New Year’s Eve. The time has changed today, and presents have changed. Now we have toys that help children develop. And we are proud of the fact that we managed to create such conditions for our children when they can have wonderful toys,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

According to the head of state, every child is the best child for parents, and Belarusian children are the best children for him as president. “You are my children, and I am responsible for you. And I am proud of it,” the president stressed.

Aleksandr Lukashenko said that today children use various gadgets, and it is normal for modern people. He advised children to spend less time in front of their computers because there are many good things outside. “Then you will become more beautiful and modern. You will not lose your identity. You should share your emotions with other people. Computers cannot give all that to you,” the head of state said.

The president stressed that happy eyes and smiles of children are the best present for adults. “This is why we live and work. We believe that the time will come when you will also be happy to see happy eyes of your children,” Aleksandr Lukashenko concluded.

The head of state wished the children a Happy New Year and expressed hope that they will preserve the faith in kindness, clean souls and sincere attitude to all people. He hopes that all their dreams will come true.

The New Year party is the central even of Our children charity campaign. The event has brought together over 2,300 children aged from 8 to 14 years from all regions of Belarus. These include orphans and children from foster families, children of refugees, students of cadet schools, winners of international, national, and regional academic excellence competitions, creative contests, sports competitions, and other kids.
