Preparations for and the actual session of the Council of Ministers of the Union State of Belarus and Russia were discussed at the meeting of Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko and State Secretary of the Union State of Belarus and Russia Grigory Rapota on 16 September.
“While last year we did what was possible to do and held sessions of Union State agencies, the Supreme State Council, this year we haven’t had such events although we have always stayed in touch. Nevertheless, it would be a good idea to formalize our relations by holding a session of the Union State Council of Ministers this year,” said the head of state.
Aleksandr Lukashenko pointed out that a lot of issues that needed solutions had piled up, including those concerning the market situation resulting from Russia’s embargo, economic relations with the European Union, and issues in the military and political sphere that have to be discussed at the top level. “Therefore, we should make up our minds in favor of a compact agenda. I don’t think there will be any questions regarding these events. There are no questions on our side. I think there will be no questions from the leadership of the Russian Federation either,” noted the Belarus President.
According to Grigory Rapota, the agenda of the session of the Union State Council of Ministers had been prepared while the agenda for the session of the Supreme State Council was being prepared. He also noted that guidelines to prioritize the development of the Union State of Belarus and Russia were being prepared following the relevant instruction of the Supreme State Council.
