Meeting with Speaker of House of Representatives of Egypt Ali Abdel-Aal Sayed

Belarus points out an important role of Egypt in the settlement of the situation in the region, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he met with Ali Abdel-Aal Sayed, Speaker of the House of Representatives of Egypt, who is on a visit to Belarus, on 15 November.

The head of state emphasized that the Belarusian side pays much attention to the cooperation with Egypt, especially in the context of international relations. “We appreciate the role that Egypt is playing again in that turbulent region. We are keeping a close eye on the conflict in Palestine, on the role that Egypt is playing in stabilizing the situation and settling the relations between Israel and Palestine,” Aleksandr Lukashenko remarked.

The President said that the sides managed to agree on many things during the latest state visit of the Belarusian delegation to Egypt. “We have a plan of action, as they say, a roadmap for the development of our relations. I want to assure you that we are determined to follow this roadmap,” the Belarusian leader stated.

He also conveyed the best wishes to the President of Egypt. “We are ready to welcome him at any convenient time, we will learn more about our opportunities so that we could step up efforts in building our relations,” he said.

Besides, the President pointed out the importance of inter-parliamentary cooperation between Belarus and Egypt. He remarked that there are groups of friendship promoting bilateral cooperation in the parliaments. “We will always be happy to welcome representatives of the Egyptian parliament in Belarus,” he said.

Ali Abdel Aal Sayed, in turn, said that the President of Egypt is set to visit Belarus in the first half of 2019. The distinguished guest stressed Egypt’s interest in expanding contacts with Belarus, which will be facilitated by the upcoming visit at the supreme level. Ali Abdel Aal Sayed conveyed the kindest greetings from Egypt President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to Aleksandr Lukashenko. The speaker of the House of Representatives praised the results of Aleksandr Lukashenko’s visit to Egypt in 2017, which helped intensify bilateral relations in both the political and economic sectors.

He stressed close and effective cooperation between Belarus and Egypt in international organizations. Ali Abdel Aal Sayed thanked Belarus for supporting Egyptian initiatives in international organizations, including in the UN. “We also constantly support Belarus’ initiatives in international organizations, including in the Human Rights Council,” the speaker of the House of Representatives of Egypt said.
