Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko emphasized progress in the development of the Belarusian-Georgian cooperation and the absence of controversial issues. He made the statement at the meeting with Vice Premier and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia Mikheil Janelidze on 4 September.
“The entirety of impressions, knowledge, our relations encourages us to enhance our friendly relations with the Georgian people. It is great that we have recently stepped up efforts to develop our relations. Of course, it would be impossible without the ministers of foreign affairs. We have virtually no issues of dispute. You need us very much, we need you very much. Our economies do not compete with each other,” the head of state said.
Aleksandr Lukashenko reaffirmed Belarus’ readiness to continue the delivery of necessary equipment to Georgia. “We are always glad to produce new equipment. We are glad to produce equipment for Georgia and countries with mountains where is needed to cultivate small pieces of land to ensure the efficiency of farming and get very good yields,” he said.
The President also emphasized Belarus’ great respect for and interest in Georgian people and their culture. “We are always ready to work together, to cooperate. You are not alien people for us. Georgians are our brothers and sisters,” he said.
The head of state remarked that Belarus cherishes the memory of Georgian people who died during the Great Patriotic War when liberating the Soviet Union and Belarus from the Nazi invasion. “We remember it, revere all monuments and take care of them,” the President said.
The two countries have many common pages in history in spite of the geographical distance between them, the Belarusian leader stressed. “We know that the great Georgian nation, the culture of Georgian people helped develop the cultures of other nations, including our culture,” he said.
Aleksandr Lukashenko mentioned Belarus’ readiness to help Georgia in any situations. “There has recently been a disaster in your mountainous regions (forest fires). We have responded to this problem after your call. Our people will always be an example of loyalty to their duty, and it does not matter in what country they are working. This is a bright testimony to the fact that you can always count on Belarusian people. You are always welcome guests in Belarus,” the head of state concluded.
