Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko took part in the presidential election on 9 September 2001. He cast his vote at polling station No. 1 of the Tsentralny District of Minsk and answered reporters’ questions.
Later that day, Aleksandr Lukashenko hosted a press conference to comment on the preliminary election results. “To a certain extent, I was convinced that I would win the election. We did not make systemic mistakes and relied on the achievements of previous generations,” he remarked. “We listened to our people and took crucial steps to address pending issues.”
