Commentary to Decree No. 522 of 28 December 2015
The year 2016 has been declared the Year of Culture in
Belarus. President Aleksandr Lukashenko signed corresponding decree No. 522 on
28 December.
The decree aims to unite the intellectual and spiritual potentials of the society to promote the social and economic development of the country, preserve the historical and cultural legacy, develop folk traditions, instill love for the Fatherland in every citizen, and support creative initiatives.
The government, oblast executive committees and the Minsk City Hall have been instructed to work out and approve a national plan of action to implement events as part of the Year of Culture initiative in various fields (industry and farming, family relations, beautification of populated areas) in 2016.
Special attention will be drawn to the development of art which is one of the main means of promoting patriotism and respect for the Homeland among the youth. The decree also provides for a set of measures connected with the celebration of landmark cultural anniversaries in Belarus.
