Commentary to Decree No. 242 of 28 May 2014

    On 28 May President of the Republic of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko signed Decree No. 242 “Concerning measures to improve the operation of the correctional system of the Interior Ministry”.

    The document provides for the liquidation, restructuring and opening of a number of correctional facilities and labor rehabilitation centers.

    Two prisons will be liquidated in Mogilev and Novopolotsk due to the decrease in prison population. Three labor rehabilitation centers will be established at the premises of these correctional facilities and Vitebsk-based labor rehabilitation center No. 4. There are plans to re-organize 35 correctional facilities.

    The document makes additions and amendments to the list of state organizations subordinate to the Interior Ministry (its departments) approved by Decree No. 611 of 4 December 2007 “Concerning the Interior Ministry and subordinate organizations”.
