Commentary to Decree No. 137 of 26 March 2014

    President of the Republic of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko signed Decree No. 137 “Concerning the elimination of military prosecution offices” on 26 March.

    In line with the document, the Belarusian Military Prosecution Office and 11 inter-garrison military prosecution offices will close down on 1 September 2014. The duty to impose the rules of conduct in the Belarusian Armed Forces, other forces and military units of Belarus, government agencies associated with military service will be assumed by the Prosecutor-General's Office and territorial prosecutor's offices.

    The reorganization is aimed at improving the system, optimizing its work and reducing the staff.

    The decree will allow decreasing the amount of funds allocated from the national budget to maintain prosecution agencies by Br1.285 billion in 2014 and by Br4.180 billion in the subsequent years.
