Belarus President Inauguration Ceremony

The inauguration ceremony of Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko took place at the Palace of the Republic on 20 September 2001. In the presence of high-ranking government officials of Belarus and numerous guests Aleksandr Lukashenko took his oath.
In his speech at the inauguration ceremony, Aleksandr Lukashenko thanked the Belarusian people for support at the election and assured that the country’s government will be fully committed to the social and economic development program of Belarus. “There is a common idea consolidating our society to build the strong and prosperous Belarus, to live in peace and accord, to cooperate with all countries and nations,” he stressed. “Belarus is an open democratic European state with its history and rich culture, hard-working and friendly people. We don’t need what belongs to others, we are augmenting our own wealth thanks to our work, energy and intellectual forces.”
Aleksandr Lukashenko signed an adjuration act and received a corresponding certificate. After that, the inauguration ceremony moved to the Oktyabrskaya Square where the soldiers of the Armed Forces of Belarus and other military units swore an oath of loyalty to the re-elected president and the Belarusian people. The event ended with a concert of popular Belarusian musicians.
