Alexander meets with member of Standing Committee of Chinese Politburo Liu Yunshan

The Republic of Belarus and the People’s Republic of China are ready to develop all-round strategic partnership. President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko and member of the Standing Committee of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China Liu Yunshan made the statement at the meeting in Minsk on 5 September.

According to the head of state, Belarus pays much attention to the development of relations with China. “We are proud of relations with this great country which has started to play a crucial role in the international arena. Today it is impossible to resolve any issues without China,” the President remarked.

“There is no need to convince you in the sincerity of our intentions because we have clearly demonstrated our position,” the head of state noted, He reminded that even before he was elected President he used to say that in 20-30 years China will become one of the leading countries in the world and Belarus should carefully study Chinese experience. “Belarus and China have nearly 20 years of the closest cooperation under their belt,” the President said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko remarked that in the last few years and even months Belarus has made a number of unprecedented decisions. The decisions concerned joint projects, which are financed and credited by the Chinese side. One of them is the project to create the Chinese-Belarusian Industrial Park where world class manufacturers assimilating cutting-edge technologies will be concentrated.

The President also said that Belarus is interested in Chinese Direct investments. “We are ready to provide assistance and create necessary conditions,” the head of state assured.

Aleksandr Lukashenko suggested that China create a powerful media holding in Belarus.

“We would like China to establish a powerful media holding here, in the center of Europe. This media holding could broadcast in Europe and the former USSR states. It does not matter if this media holding will be a joint venture or a Chinese company. However, it is extremely important that it will promote our cooperation and provide greater coverage of our plans, Belarus, our joint projects and initiatives,” the President said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that he is ready to discuss all kinds of matters with Liu Yunshan: “This is a very important visit and it will help advance our cooperation. Your visit is a testimony to the fact that the People’s Republic of China attaches great importance to the development of strategic relations with Belarus”.

Aleksandr Lukashenko underlined that during his visit to China in July 2013 Belarus and China started drafting a roadmap of the bilateral cooperation. The President expressed hope that this roadmap will be signed during the visit of the Belarusian Prime Minister to China.

Liu Yunshan, for his part, conveyed the greetings from Chinese President Xi Jinping to Aleksandr Lukashenko.

The Chinese official said that China will consistently implement the agreements reached at the highest level on the strengthening of all-around cooperation with Belarus.

“I know that you have made seven visits to China. You have become a good friend of our country,” the high guest said addressing Aleksandr Lukashenko. “You are one of the most popular politicians of the Chinese people, and your visit in July this year was successful, received great feedback from the Chinese people and the media. You and President of China reached an important consensus on a wide range of issues of mutual interest,” he said. Liu Yunshan noted that the two heads of state announced all-round strategic partnership.

"Therefore the main purpose of my visit is to further the implementation of the agreements on strengthening the all-round cooperation," Liu Yunshan stressed.

The development of cooperation with china is one of the priorities of the Belarusian foreign policy. The sides regularly exchange visits at the highest level. Belarus and China support each other in the international arena. The Belarusian-Chinese trade and economic relations are increasingly vibrant due to similar principles of their domestic and foreign policies and similar approaches to pressing global issues.
