Aleksandr Lukashenko meets with State Border Committee Chairman Leonid Maltsev
Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko met with Chairman of the State Border Committee Leonid Maltsev on 2 June. Attending the meeting was also State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus Alexander Mezhuyev.
Aleksandr Lukashenko asked if the border service has any issues that require decisions on the level of the President. The head of state noted that this summer he would like to tour the border to see how his instructions are being fulfilled.
The President noted that he also wants to examine the tourist potential of Belarusian islands on the Western BugRiver. “This will be very interesting for people. It is also important for us from the point of view of patriotic upbringing,” the head of state said. He noted that three years ago Brest Oblast Governor Konstantin Sumar promised to put in order this territory, as well as the catacombs and ruins there, and to develop tourist routes.
Aleksandr Lukashenko believes that these places can also be used as a setting in movie-making. “These places will be eagerly used to shoot movies, because you will not find a better setting,” the President noted.
Leonid Maltsev informed the President about the state of affairs in the border service, about Belarus’ border security and measures to update this system and make it more efficient and flexible.
The Chairman of the State Border Committee noted that border guards fulfilled their tasks and successfully handled the increased traffic during the ice hockey world championship in Minsk. “It means that the system works, but life is going on and any system needs improvement,” he said.
Aleksandr Lukashenko approved the submitted proposals and offered his remarks on the matters discussed. He also gave a number of instructions on optimizing the structure and raising the efficiency of resources and manpower of the State Border Committee.
