Aleksandr Lukashenko hears out report of Chairman of State Border Committee Leonid Maltsev

Border security matters were discussed as Chairman of the State Border Committee of Belarus Leonid Maltsev delivered his report to Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko on 5 December.

Aleksandr Lukashenko pointed out that he knows challenges of the border service from the inside and reminded that a number of topical issues had been analyzed once.

“After analyzing those issues we agreed that we will work out a list of tasks that you will have to take care of. I would like to hear how they are handled, including the optimization of the organizational structure, personnel, the development of the border infrastructure, engineering support,” noted the head of state.

Aleksandr Lukashenko was also interested in promising areas of enhancing the border infrastructure. He warned against getting involved in doubtful projects. “I still cannot get accustomed to your drones. If they are effective and allow you to save money spent on border protection, if you manage to catch more trespassers, then go ahead with the modern things. But we cannot afford making mistakes about that,” stressed the President.

“The matter of the Ukrainian border is very important. We have agreed that we have to seriously work to demark the Ukrainian border. Our Ukrainian friends have nothing to complain about. It was not our idea, it was theirs. They started this work and we had to also start doing it. I wonder how they are working, how we are working, and what is going on at the Ukrainian border on the whole. Do we have to be concerned about it today?” said Aleksandr Lukashenko.

The Chairman of the State Border Committee of Belarus informed the President that the state of the national border security was stable. The Belarusian border service takes care of its tasks as usual. The border checkpoints are working harder in anticipation of Christmas and New Year celebrations. However, Leonid Maltsev assured that the State Border Committee was ready for any changes of the situation.

The instructions the President has given to ensure reliable border security of the country are executed in full on time and well. In particular, the organizational and personnel structure of the Belarusian border service has been optimized. The move has allowed enhancing the protection of the state border, including the southern direction. Additional border posts have been deployed. Two detachments have been deployed to enhance border protection near the construction site of the Belarusian nuclear power plant. A new border unit is about to be deployed in Mozyr.

Besides, the level of the engineering equipment used to protect the state border has been seriously upgraded, primarily in the southern direction as well as the Lithuanian and Latvian parts of the border. Leonid Maltsev said that work continues to introduce digital queuing at border checkpoints. The development of a draft presidential decree to create the legal field for introducing digital queue is nearing completion.

The head of state was also informed about the introduction of modern hardware for the protection of the state border, in particular, unmanned aerial vehicles, rapidly deployed signaling complexes, other solutions that use fewer resources but still protect the state border in a reliable manner.
