On 21 February
Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko heard out a report from Interior
Minister Igor Shunevich.
The Minister informed the head of state about the performance of law enforcement bodies in 2013 and in early 2014, the current crime situation and some current investigations.
Attention was also paid to the ongoing reformation of law enforcement agencies. The Department of Corrections of the Interior Ministry is involved in this process, too.
According to Igor Shunevich, the number of people sentenced to imprisonment has been declining for several years now. The current situation has been analyzed and the shutdown of two enclosed-type correctional facilities, including one penal colony for the underage, was suggested to the head of state.
The suggestion was approved and will be implemented soon.
