Aleksandr Lukashenko attends national graduation ball for university students

Today’s graduates will spearhead the economic modernization program in the future, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at the nationwide graduation ball for university students.
“Today marks a new and very important stage in the life of every one of you. Now you are students no more. You are certified specialists and will soon take your place at the helm of the economy, will advance science, make new achievements in Belarusian culture. Besides the priceless gift of life you have received from your parents, you got another present from the older generation - a free and independent homeland. You need to take responsibility for the destiny of the country, enhance its well-being,” said the head of state.
Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that, having become President in the most difficult years for the state, he understood clearly that Belarus would be able to survive and develop only through the intellectual potential and the dedicated work of its people. "This is why education is one of the priorities of our policy," underscored the Belarusian leader.
According to the President, since Belarus gained independence, the number of students has almost doubled; new universities and institutes, tens of faculties and hundreds of new major have been established. Belarusian universities provide the country with specialties across the professions most demanded in the country. “High level of education of people is our competitive advantage in the global market. The social role of universities in contemporary life has expanded considerably. They not only support and increase the intellectual level of the society, but also educate the younger generation in the spirit of the Belarusian nation, shaping the ideals and values of citizens. This is particularly important for strengthening our young sovereign state,” said Aleksandr Lukashenko.
“Attaching great importance to improving the quality of the education, we strive to prepare you to independent living, want to share with you our experiences of achieving success, realizing plans, so that your innovative ideas, creativity and energy should serve to the benefit both of you and the whole country,” the head of state said addressing the graduates.
“Today’s graduates will play a leading role in the economic modernization, commercializing of scientific achievements, implementation of advanced technologies, and modern management techniques. Youth should contribute to the development of the legal framework and democratic institutions of the state on the firm foundation of patriotism. If we sincerely love our country and are proud of its history, traditions and modern achievements, if we firmly defend our national interests, then we will be respected in the world,” the head of state said.
“You have everything you need for a successful start in life: good education, profession and confidence in the future.The government always supports the courageous, enthusiastic, and committed people, and creates the conditions for the realization of your talents and abilities,” the Belarusian leader said.
Addressing the university rectors, Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that the country appreciates their work, organizational and pedagogical abilities and expects them to participate more actively in promoting innovation processes. The higher education institutions will continue working to improve the quality of education, strengthen its relationship with the industry and enroll students who have made an informed professional choice. I am sure that you will become a primary driving force behind the modernization of university education.
The head of state wished happy graduation to new graduates. "Believe in yourself, work hard, spare no effort to follow your dream, and I am sure you will succeed," said the President addressing the new graduates.
Aleksandr Lukashenko also presented the letters of President’s special thanks and gifts to the best graduates.
