Working trip to Vitebsk Oblast

Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko demands to enhance the technological and personnel discipline during the harvest campaign. The head of state gave a corresponding instruction during the working trip to Miory District, Vitebsk Oblast, on 3 August.

“Technological discipline is essential. It makes no sense to operate at a loss without technologies. But the main thing is iron personnel and working discipline. You can attract anyone you want but people must fulfill their obligations, otherwise Vitebsk Oblast will flounder for decades,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

During the visit to OAO Turkovo in Miory District the President asked about the grain harvesting progress in Vitebsk Oblast and in the country. “If we harvest everything we have, and we will do it, we will satisfy the country’s demand for sure,” the head of state is convinced.

Aleksandr Lukashenko was briefed on the progress in the fulfillment of the state procurement contracts, conservation of fodder for the animal husbandry industry and use of progressive technologies for this purpose.

The President drew special attention to the provision of enterprises with necessary equipment, especially with Belarusian balers. “People should be taught to operate them during the winter. We should also help the enterprises buy them,” the head of state said. “This is a salvation for the country, not only for Vitebsk Oblast.”

Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed: “Let’s proceed from what we have. It is time for Vitebsk Oblast to rise to its feet using what it has accumulated.”

The head of state noted that it is necessary to sow the crops, which produce the largest yield in the available conditions. “Every district should decide what crops should be sown depending on climatic conditions and simply people’s habits,” added the President.

The head of state drew attention to the development of the animal husbandry industry in the region and to providing the farms with the necessary equipment. As an example Aleksandr Lukashenko mentioned the agricultural enterprise Rodina in Belynichi District, Mogilev Oblast where simple but most favorable conditions for animal husbandry had been enabled.

During the working the President visited the Miory central district hospital.

In the medical center Aleksandr Lukashenko met with Belarusian businessman Aleksei Kovalenok. Thanks to him the city has launched a project to build Miory Rolling Mill, a unique industrial facility with the use of German investment and German technologies.

The businessman suggested another object but this time in the social sector, a high-tech cardiology center in compliance with German standards. It will provide emergency and scheduled specialized care to people living in the nearby districts and export health services to foreign nationals.

It is expected that the medical center will operate on the principles of public-private partnership. The project is of particular relevance in connection with the launch of the new mill which will attract additional labor to Miory in coming years.

“We ask nothing from the budget for the project. Everything will be built and managed by the foreign partner. There are no such projects either in Belarus, or Russia, or Kazakhstan,” said Aleksei Kovalenok.

Aleksandr Lukashenko said he studied the project. “We will pay for the people who cannot afford treatment at your center,” said the President. He stressed, however, that the prices should be reasonable. “If we see that the project is used to milk big money (I do not think this is the case, though), we will refuse from its services because we have places to treat people,” he noted.

During the visit to Miory central district hospital, the head of state was shown an X-ray room, maternity and children’s departments. He talked to young mothers and gave them gifts.

Healthcare Minister Valery Malashko briefed the President on the development of the healthcare system in the country in general. “This year we, together with the regional authorities have worked out a social standard for introducing the institute of the general practitioner, which showed good results in rural areas. Today we are introducing these practices at the regional level,” the minister said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko also emphasized the need to provide assistance to the elderly, especially those living alone.
