Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said that he upholds the idea to give the OSCE a bigger role in addressing international issues as he met with OSCE Secretary General Thomas Greminger on 9 October.

“You can count on our assistance and support while holding any OSCE events here in Minsk. I absolutely support your personal determination to reform the organization and give it a bigger say in tackling international problems. It chimes in with our own stance and our vision of the role and place of the OSCE in today’s world,” the Belarusian leader said.

“Belarus has been consistently advocating dialogue. You know it and you have appreciated it. In this complicated and controversial world, dialogue is the major means of communication between nations, country leaders and states in general. The fact that we gathered in Minsk today for this anti-terror conference sends a strong message to our region. We will do anything to make this conference that is taking place in Belarus for the first time a remarkable event that will become a milestone not only for the OSCE,” Aleksandr Lukashenko noted.

The head of state emphasized the importance of the issue of cybercrime that tops the agenda of the international conference taking place in Minsk under the aegis of the OSCE. “We have gathered to discuss a very important problem facing the humankind now. For holding this event here, tremendous credit goes to you and your secretariat. I am grateful to you for that. Terrorism, cybercrime, human trafficking, and illegal migration – these are the issues that raise great concern worldwide, in particular, in our region. The countries of our region suffer from manifestation of such inhumane actions,” the president said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that Belarus will soon host a Munich Security Conference Core Group meeting. “I will be glad to see you here, in Minsk, at this influential conference where you will be able to communicate your view and hear opinions of other experts and high-ranking officials on our common problems. I would like to assure you that we, as always, will seek to play a meaningful role in conflict resolution on our Eurasian continent,” the Belarusian leader note.

“The doors of our Belarus and its capital are always open for you. Tell us what we should do. We are ready to do more for security on our continent,” the head of state added.
