The preparation of large-scale events with the participation of the President, personnel issues, reforms in sport, debureaucratization efforts, further optimization in the state apparatus, and other issues were discussed at the working meeting of Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko with Head of the Belarus President Administration Natalya Kochanova on 22 May.

“We should review the issues in the housing and utilities sector at the level of the head of state, get back to the matters of construction and hold major meetings on agricultural development and education. All in all, we should organize five to six high-profile mass participation events to put the record straight,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

According to the President, there are plans to hold a number of smaller events dedicated to sport and promotion of entrepreneurship. “These events will gather fewer participants, but we should put the record straight in the public eye,” the President remarked.

He also inquired when the materials on the ways of fostering entrepreneurship and improving the business climate will be prepared. “I suppose that the process of discussions has finished so far,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

The head of state also paid attention to debureaucratization. “The head of the President Administration should control the adoption of the relevant decree. We should keep track of this process,” Aleksandr Lukashenko underlined.

The head of state noted that personnel issues are high on the agenda of the Belarus President Administration.

“Semyon Shapiro has been recently appointed Chairman of the Belarusian Ice Hockey Federation. He will have to do a lot at his new post. I asked to tell him that he would be assigned some important state instruction, monitor some issues. We need to use his experience,” the President said.

“There are personnel issues regarding governors. Personnel matters are a continuous process. I would like you to report briefly on the issue,” the head of state added.

“When can we expect to finish the reforms in sport, especially in the field of personnel management in the federations, state bodies and the ministry, going to be over? I would like this process to be completed by 30 May when, as I understand, the Olympic assembly is convened,” the head of state said.

The President gave instructions to prepare an in-depth and comprehensive analysis of the processes happening in sport by the beginning of this large-scale event. “I want you to supervise this issue because it is the main ideological issue. We have never made a secret of this. Sport is ideology,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said. “Millions watch sports competitions. This has an influence on people. If a team performs badly, this spoils the mood of people. If a team does well, this inspires people,” the president noted.

“Salaries of public officials should not be raised until the government bodies are optimized. This is what we have agreed upon,” the President noted.

Natalya Kochanova remarked that the Belarus President Administration has already been updated and started working in the new format. These measures have been introduced in a timely manner.

The government has enacted all regulatory acts required to continue this process in other government bodies. “Relevant acts and schedule of optimization have been adopted. We will report on the progress of optimization in 2017 till 1 December,” the head of the Belarus President Administration said.
