Preparation for the forthcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit in China’s Qingdao and ways to expand Belarus-China cooperation were discussed at a meeting of Belarus’ President Aleksandr Lukashenko with Chinese Ambassador to Belarus Cui Qiming.

“I have asked you to come to me in order to hold consultations on some aspects of our relations in the run-up to my visit to Qingdao. We have the SCO Summit. Prior to my visit to China, Belarus will welcome the official who is second in the hierarchy of the People’s Republic of China. We will discuss Belarus-China relations with him, too. No other Chinese national knows as much as you do about our relations and you are in the know about such matters. Therefore, I would like to discuss a number of things with you not only in relation to my visit to China, but also the strategy of our relations,” the head of state said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that prior to his meeting with President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping he would like to discuss with the ambassador some matters that are of crucial importance for China-Belarus relations. “We are very close; we have a strategic level of cooperation. It speaks for itself. Therefore, I would like you to tell me something. I will also tell you something to get ready for these contacts at the high and highest levels and to make them productive,” the Belarusian leader said.

The President suggested discussing some issues of concern, too. “We will get down to them. Issues are inevitable, because the scale of cooperation is tremendous, in particular in the Great Stone. I would like to know your take on the issues and your point of view. Maybe, we are missing something, in particular, on our side. We will take it into consideration in our cooperation,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
