Belarusian people are capable of making their country a truly prosperous land. Efforts and executive discipline are needed to achieve this, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at a meeting in the Zhitkovichi District Executive Committee on 28 April.

The head of state remarked that he had arrived in Zhitkovichi District because not enough attention is sometimes paid to such districts which are located far from Minsk and oblast capitals. “Our governors are used to focusing on oblast capitals. Unfortunately, it happens. I see such issues in all regions,” he said.

“You have a rare opportunity to ask your questions directly, first of all, to speak about drawbacks that exist at various levels,” Aleksandr Lukashenko remarked. “I hope to have a sincere conversation,” he stressed.

At the beginning of the session Aleksandr Lukashenko remarked that a lot has been done in Zhitkovichi District in recent years. However, there are still certain issues, such as red tape and other things. “I think that people living here deserve more from the state. But it does not mean that there will be no tough responsibility for the results of work,” the President said.

“We cannot lose what we have today. Everything depends on us. We are able to make our country a prosperous land,” the head of state stressed.

“We will have nothing without discipline. Stop looking for causes and lamenting that we cannot do something. Otherwise, we will face the fate of Armenia or Ukraine, or we will be separated into pieces. We can face the scenario of 1993-1994 when your wanted to set up the Polesie Republic here. Thanks God the people of Polesie are not silly,” the President said.

The Belarusian leader emphasized the importance of a well-thought approach to the personnel selection system and the maintenance of strong executive discipline.
