Meeting with Chairman of Council of Republic Mikhail Myasnikovich

The implementation of the project to build the Garlyk mining and processing factory in Turkmenistan by Belarusian specialists signals Belarus’ civil engineering capabilities to the entire world. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the statement as he met with Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich on 28 March.

“We’ve at last mastered this kind of an enterprise. Back in the Soviet period when surveys were in progress over there the Soviet Union did not risk venturing into this kind of business. It was a very complicated technology due to the soil layers we’ve had to go through. But we’ve done it. It means our technologies are solid. It is a signal to the entire world that we can open any shaft and extract not only potash fertilizers but any treasures of the soil using shafts let alone open-pit mining. It was a very important project for us. It is a good thing we have finished it,” the President noted.

Mikhail Myasnikovich informed Aleksandr Lukashenko about the results of this Belarusian-Turkmen project and capabilities of the enterprise. It was noted that this project was beneficial for the Belarusian side: many construction organizations took part in it, a lot of equipment was provided. It showed that the country is competitive in the construction industry.

The head of state gave an instruction to make all necessary financial calculations as Belarusian organization should get timely payment for their work.

Another issue on the agenda was the state of affairs in Brest Oblast. Mikhail Myasnikovich is the Belarus president’s plenipotentiary for Brest Oblast. Mikhail Myasnikovich informed Aleksandr Lukashenko about the social and economic development and the work with organizations that are in a difficult situation.

The sides also discussed the progress in the spring sowing campaign in Brest Oblast, other pending issues. The President stressed that the state will help companies buy fuel. “We have agreed that we will allocate fuel on a mass scale as from 1 April when the entire country is involved in the sowing campaign. I’ve signed all the executive orders. We will add more fuel. But fuel will have to come from somewhere,” he said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko pointed out that warm weather is expected to settle in in the next few days and the first crops will sprout in the fields. “We should expedite the sowing campaign as much as possible,” he added.
