The special prize of the President of the Republic of Belarus The Belarusian Sports Olympus was instituted in 2003. It aims to stimulate and support activities in physical education and sport.

The special prize is bestowed upon the citizens of the Republic of Belarus who have made a considerable contribution to the development of the mass sports movement, promotion of physical training and sport, enrichment of sport traditions which are necessary for the all-round development of an individual.

Candidates for the special prize are shortlisted by the board of the Sports and Tourism Ministry. The entries are then forwarded to the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus before 1 April of the year when the special prize is awarded.

The proposal to award the special prize is submitted for consideration of the President of the Republic of Belarus.

Every year the President of Belarus signs a decree to confer one special prize which is usually presented on the Day of Workers of Physical Education and Sport.

A recipient of the special prize is awarded a diploma and a medal of the special prize winner.
