Special prizes of the President of the Republic of Belarus for people of culture and art were instituted in 1998.

The President of the Republic of Belarus presents ten special prizes to people of culture and art.

The special prize of the President of the Republic of Belarus is bestowed upon the people of culture and art in recognition of their outstanding achievements in fine arts, music, theater, choreography, singing, circus art, architecture, design, cinema, literature, journalism, television and radio, critique, art history, folk and amateur arts, museology and librarianship, education of the creative youth.

The prize can be conferred on masters of culture, literature, art, architecture, mass media, groups of authors, creative figures or other workers whose achievements made within the period from 1 October of the year prior to the year, for which the prize is awarded, to 1 October of the year, for which the prize is awarded, meet the requirements to the prize applicants.

The prize is awarded in line with the decree of the President of the Republic of Belarus and is presented by the President or other officials on his behalf.

A recipient of the special prize is awarded a diploma of the prize winner.
