Today President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko had a telephone conversation with President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko. The conversation was initiated by the Ukrainian side. The Presidents discussed urgent issues of bilateral relations. In their conversation the Presidents paid special attention to the problems hampering progress in Belarus-Ukraine cooperation in the fuel and energy sector. The Presidents agreed to resume the dialogue on energy-related issues, discussed issues pertaining to transit of electric energy through Belarus and alternative supplies of oil. The conversation also touched upon the issues of bilateral relationship in the context of the policy of good neighbourliness. For example, Alexander Lukashenko and Viktor Yushchenko discussed the relations of Belarus and Ukraine with Poland, Lithuania and other countries of Central and Eastern Europe. The sides agreed to hold a Belarus-Ukraine summit featuring the two Heads of State in the next month. In this respect, the sides agreed to draw up, within one week, the agenda for the summit. | ||
