Belarus has been rigorously fulfilling its commitments within its area of responsibility within both the Belarus-Russia Union State and the Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO), said President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko on 13 May during a meeting with Nikolai Bordyuzha, the CSTO Secretary General, who is currently in Minsk on a working visit.

“In fact, Belarus and Russia are the core of the Organisation,” said Alexander Lukashenko. “Therefore we should tackle all the problems arising within the CSTO area together,” he added.

Belarus is one of the most active members of the Organisation, the CSTO Secretary General said. “The position of the leadership of Belarus has always been constructive and geared towards ensuring both domestic and collective security,” said Nikolai Bordyuzha.

The President of Belarus and the CSTO Secretary General discussed a whole range of urgent issues facing the Organisation against the background of current preparations for the upcoming session of the Collective Security Council at the level of the presidents of the CSTO member states. They also discussed today’s situation within the CSTO area. “In some parts of the world, specifically in Central Asia, the situation is really quite difficult,” he said.

The CSTO Secretary General informed the President on specific measures taken to counter illicit migration, improve techniques for preventing emergency situations caused by man-made or natural disasters, and improve the methods of countering drug traffic, especially from Afghanistan.
