The Republican Theatre of Byelorussian Drama was created in Minsk (it is the capital of the Republic of Belarus) in 1990 as an experimental one. It's main purpose was to collaborate with modern dramatists. Making Byelorussian language and Byelorussian drama more popular among the people became the main duration of theatre-work. So the Theatre of Byelorussian Drama is one of the few theatres of that kind - Theatre "Royal Court" in London and Modern Play School in Moscow. The Theatre is working with young playwrights, repetitions, scenic readings of the plays with actors, seminars with directors and other specialists of the theatre.

The Theatre is putting on not only the plays of Byelorussian authors, but also the plays written by the world classics - such as Shakespeare, Brecht, Moliere, Chekhov, Bulgakov. Foreign plays in our Theatre means much for the professional training of the actors, directors, dramatists. It is the way of founding out interesting works and showing them to the Byelorussian audience.

Theatre is very active in it's repertoire. During the period 2000-2005 we put on 25 premieres. The Republican Theatre of Byelorussian Drama is a stationary, repertoire one. Today we have 19 performances in the repertoire, it means we can't perform one play more than twice a month. Some of the performances have been being in the repertoire of the Theatre for more than 10 years and still are in success.

The Republican Theatre of Byelorussian Drama is a state establishment, sponsoring by the Ministry of Culture of the republic.
