Session of Interior Ministry's board to discuss performance of law enforcement bodies

Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko has outlined the priorities for the Interior Ministry. He made the statement after the session of the board of the ministry.

According to the President, there are a number of issues which have to be solved without succumbing to doubt as to the chosen course

Law enforcement bodies should step up efforts to prevent the spread of drug addiction, do their best to reduce the number of thefts and crimes in rural areas.

Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed that the Interior Ministry should prioritize the protection of children and senior citizens from criminals.

Another priority is the prevention of economic crimes. The head of state noted that he would like the ministry to step up efforts in this field.

Personnel issues are of special importance in today’s situation. “You are moving in the right direction. You should not stop. Support and stimulate those who deserve it, give awards and ranks to them. Betrayal is intolerable,” the Belarusian leader stressed.

Apart from that, the Interior Ministry has been instructed to analyze the current crime situation, reveal the main reasons and conditions of all changes. “You cannot act blindly,” the head of state remarked.

Another task is to review the use of manpower and resources.

Aleksandr Lukashenko also stressed that police should have an uncompromising approach to offenders. In this context, he deemed it necessary to improve discipline in law enforcement bodies. “You should be incorruptible, beyond any doubts. Police are the core of the society. By your actions people judge about the government in general,” the President said.

The Belarusian leader stressed that the state will prioritize crime prevention, protection of the rights and legal interests of people in the future. The President stressed that the requirements to law enforcement bodies will always be very high.

“I do not have any serious concerns. In general, you are working well. But the situation needs to be changed in a number of fields. I would like you to do it as soon as possible,” Aleksandr Lukashenko concluded.
