Report of Belarus’ Industry Minister on situation in manufacturing sector

Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko is concerned about the state of affairs at the enterprises of the Industry Ministry. The head of state made the statement before the report of Industry Minister of Belarus Vasily Vovk on the situation in the industry, problems and solutions.
Aleksandr Lukashenko remarked that of all branches where the situation is unfavorable he is most of all concerned about the Industry Ministry. According to Aleksandr Lukashenko, the companies of this agency account for one fifth of Belarus’ industrial output, more than a half of products is exported. “These companies have been recently lagging behind and slowing down the entire Belarusian economy,” the head of state said.
During the session on topical issues of the social and economic development there was a principled discussion of the modern economic development trends, Aleksandr Lukashenko said. “We agreed that we will eradicate red tape, make necessary decisions and ensure their fulfillment,” the President noted. Back then an agreement was reached that the Industry Minister and other members of the government in charge of this sector would be among the first to report on the progress and fulfillment of instructions.
The head of state asked the Industry Minister to share his opinion about the problems in the industry and about the measures to ensure normal operation of the sector. “I would like to emphasize once again that this year I do not expect that the government will ensure a breakthrough or a huge output increase. I gave a clear instruction: we need to ensure the situation does not worsen. Nevertheless, the state of affairs did not improve in January,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
Directors of Belarus’ largest enterprises are taking part in the today’s meeting to discuss the situation in the manufacturing sector. The head of state wanted to know about their future plans, about the measures they take to ensure normal operation of companies, about the state of affairs in the teams of workers. “We do not need talks about the difficult situation today and about what you are going to do the day after tomorrow. I need concrete results,” Aleksandr Lukashenko emphasized. The President asked directors of companies to provide concrete data for a certain period of time and to inform him about the progress in hitting production targets, export destinations and revenues. The head of state also reminded that it is inadmissible to increase accounts receivable.
At the end of the meeting the President gave instructions to promote the sales of Belarusian goods, diversify export, reduce the backlog of inventory, and raise the quality of local products.
