Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko has reaffirmed Belarus’ commitment to take an active part in Tajikistan’s industrial development at the meeting with Tajikistan’s President Emomali Rahmon on 29 September.

“We are ready to join your modernization and industrialization effort and make an adequate contribution to it, to accomplish the work we agreed on in May (during the official visit of the Belarusian President to Tajikistan),” the Belarusian leader noted.

Speaking about the joint venture to assemble tractors in Hisor, Aleksandr Lukashenko emphasized that Belarus is fully determined to fulfill its obligations. “More than that, I have been told that today we will sell 300 tractors made by the Belarus-Tajikistan joint venture to Afghanistan. Selling our products to the neighboring countries is what we planned and dreamt about,” the President noted.

The Belarusian head of state thanked Tajikistan for its hospitality and cordiality and noted that it was done not for the protocol. “Thank you very much for the hospitality and cordiality that you personally and your people offered us here. I brought ordinary people with me. Yesterday they took a walk around Dushanbe and noted that Tajik people are similar to Belarusians – cordial, receptive, affable, ready to show the way to any place when they learn that we are from Belarus. This is what matters most. We have managed to achieve not just normal communication between the nations, but also an atmosphere of friendship. The same attitude will be offered to Tajiks in our country,” the Belarusian leader said.

Emomali Rahmon noted that the arrangements reached during the official visit of the Belarusian head of state in May this year are being successfully implemented, giving a powerful impetus to the bilateral relations. “Today the factory [in Hisor] will become fully operational,” the noted.

Tajikistan’s president told his Belarusian counterpart about other projects, in particular fruit production. Specialists of the two countries noted that the joint work is in progress.

The heads of state decided to speed up the implementation of all earlier arrangements.

The president of Tajikistan showed Aleksandr Lukashenko around the halls in the Palace of the Nation decorated with handmade wood carvings inspired by national motifs. The decorations were made of pine tree, oak and beech. The work was done in less than a year. Aleksandr Lukashenko praised Tajik craftsmen. “It is not just beautiful, it is amazing,” he said. Emomali Rahmon said that Tajikistan is ready to share its best practices and do such works in Belarus if necessary.
