Meeting with Syrian Minister of Presidential Affairs Mansour Azzam

Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko met with Syrian Minister of Presidential Affairs Mansour Azzam on 5 April.

The head of state warmly welcomed the Syrian guest: “It is good that you have come to Belarus. It is very useful for us to learn from you what the situation in the country is and how the Syrian people and the President of Syria live.”

Mansour Azzam stressed that it is an honor for him to meet with Aleksandr Lukashenko. “This is a testimony to the warm relations between the presidents of the two countries. I would like to give you a letter from Bashar al-Assad,” the minister said. He also spoke about the current situation in Syria and those huge losses, human losses in the first place, of the Syrian people. About 70% of the infrastructure has been destroyed in Syria, and now the country will have to restore it.

The meeting focused on the prospects of peaceful development in Syria, including the participation of Belarus in economic and infrastructure projects on its territory. Belarus’ experience, including in building socially important facilities, schools, hospitals, roads, can be useful for Syria.

The Belarusian President expressed readiness to help Syrian people in peaceful construction and implementation of joint economic and infrastructure projects. The minister stressed that Syria invites Belarus which has always supported its people in the restoration of the country.

The participants of the meeting also discussed humanitarian projects, including the recuperation of Syrian children in Belarus. Besides, Aleksandr Lukashenko and Mansour Azzam discussed the education of Syrian youth in Belarusian institutions.
