The system of vocational training is constantly streamlined and modernized in the Republic of Belarus, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he met with President of WorldSkills International Simon Bartley on 17 May.

The head of state noted that Belarus is the only country in the post-Soviet space and, perhaps, in Western Europe which is paying so much attention to vocational training. “At present former Soviet republics ask us to help them train blue-collar workers because they have destroyed the Soviet system,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko emphasized that Belarus has preserved and improved the system of vocational training. The process of its optimization and modernization is underway. “Of course, it should be developed, streamlined, and modernized every year. Belarus will be an example of vocational training development,” the President said.

The development of an ultra-modern resource base is in the spotlight because it will help young people get modern professions.

Industrial training is in the center of attention too. “We are doing our best to engage students of vocational schools in working practice from the very beginning of their studies. They will evaluate their potential and working skills, learn more about future professions, and make conclusions about the correctness of their career choices,” the head of state said.

The participants of the meeting noted that the potential of vocational training is not depleted. Belarusian education is now matched with the country’s economic needs. The needs of organizations are taken into account.

During the meeting the president of WorldSkills International remarked that Belarusian vocational training achievements are very important both for the CIS member states and the global community. He praised positive changes in the country and expressed eagerness to use Belarus’ best practices to promote blue-collar jobs.
