Meeting with Omani businessmen

Belarus views Oman as a promising trade and investment partner in the Persian Gulf region, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he met with businessmen of the Sultanate of Oman on 19 September.

“The relations between our states boast a high level of trust and sincere friendship. I would like to stress that we consider Oman as one of promising trade and investment partners in the Persian Gulf. It was promoted through the intensification of official contacts at the government and parliamentary levels within the past two years. Belarus is ready to develop relations with your state in all the areas,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

“Although there is a upward trend in bilateral trade, the trade turnover still remains extremely low. I can say that we are at the beginning of the road. I am confident that the potential of our economic cooperation is huge and in-demand,” the President stressed.

Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed that Belarus has advanced machine-building. The country is ready to export equipment to Oman and set up joint ventures there. “There are good prospects for the development of investment cooperation. Belarus has created the most favorable doing business conditions. The country guarantees the protection of private assets and investments, ensures the right for profit repatriation. We do not create any obstacles for the implementation of mutually beneficial joint projects,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said. “Besides, our country is ready to help Oman enhance cooperation with the Eurasian Economic Union. This is a huge market of goods and services of Belarus, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Armenia which unites more than 170 million people.”

The first Belarus-Oman business forum will open on 20 September. The participants of the forum will work out a concrete plan of cooperation between the representatives of the business circles of the two countries. “I am convinced that we will be able to give a new impetus to the development of mutually beneficial ties,” the Belarusian leader concluded.

Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Oman Saeed Al Kiyumi, in turn, thanked the President for the meeting. “This meeting proves that the leadership of our state is interested in the development of bilateral relations between the two countries, especially in trade,” he stressed.

The delegation of Oman which is on a visit to Belarus includes about 40 representatives of the country’s business circles. These are the most influential businessmen working in various sectors of the economy. “This business delegation has the biggest number of members representing various sectors of the economy. It is an honor for us to visit friendly Belarus,” Saeed Al Kiyumi remarked.

The participants of the meeting discussed concrete cooperation avenues and agreed to create new trade ties. There are good prospects in the manufacturing sector, information technologies, construction, education, tourism, hospitality business, agriculture, and other industries.
