Meeting with Chairman of Belarus’ State Security Committee Valery Vakulchik

Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko praised efforts of the State Security Committee (KGB) of Belarus in fight against corruption. Aleksandr Lukashenko made the relevant statement as he heard out a report from KGB Chairman Valery Vakulchik on 8 February.

The head of state also spoke in positive terms about the Committee’s efforts to ensure the observance of national interests with regard to economy and finance. This direction is very important for Belarus at present. According to the President, it is good that the Committee has managed to shift the focus to economic matters. “Other power-wielding agencies are far behind the KGB in this regard,” noted Aleksandr Lukashenko.

At the same time the head of state stressed that intelligence and counter-intelligence services, the protection of the constitutional order are the top priorities for the State Security Committee. At present nothing threatens Belarus’ statehood and security, nevertheless, the President intends to keep an eye on the matter.

Valery Vakulchik informed Aleksandr Lukashenko about the current state affairs, citing results of the year 2015. The KGB Chairman noted that the measures they had taken had allowed securing results not only in intelligence and counter-intelligence efforts but also in the protection of economic security and fight against corruption. The KGB manages to uncover system problems in various branches of the economy. The Committee can see reserves for better economic performance in this or that area.
