It is quite feasible to increase the Belarusian-Pakistani trade turnover to $ 1 billion, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he met with outgoing Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Pakistan Masood Khan Raja on 22 January.

The head of state thanked the diplomat for his contribution to the development of the friendly Belarusian-Pakistani ties. “You have done a lot for the establishment of very friendly relations between Belarus and Pakistan,” Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed.

The President also remarked that he also maintains very good contacts with the leadership of Pakistan. Aleksandr Lukashenko expressed hope that they will have a chance to meet once again and discuss the prospects of developing bilateral ties.

“We have ambitious tasks. We have created the foundation of our relations, not we need to bolster, first of all, our trade and economic contacts,” the President stressed. “We have concrete goals. We need to do our best to exceed the $1 billion level of bilateral trade. There is a huge potential. We just need to work. It is rather feasible to exceed this level. We will appreciate such efforts of our friends in Pakistan. I want to assure you that we will do our best to achieve this goal.”

The head of state added that Belarus will always be a reliable friend for Pakistan in spite of any global cataclysms.

Masood Khan Raja said that it was an honor for him to work in Belarus. “During my tenure as ambassador I received all necessary assistance from the Belarusian leadership,” he said. The ambassador stressed the important role of the two leaders in the promotion of Belarusian-Pakistani cooperation, which, in his opinion, has a large potential for development.

The meeting focused on the entire spectrum of developing Belarus-Pakistan relations, including within the framework of the forthcoming large-scale business forum in Tajikistan in 2018.
