Interview to Chinese mass media

Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko gave an interview to the mass media of the People’s Republic of China – China Central Television (CCTV) and the Xinhua News Agency – on 4 May.

The President shared his opinion about the future of Belarus-China relations in the context of the forthcoming visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to Belarus.

“Our friendship and cooperation have been tested by at least two decades. I think that the Chinese leadership and the Chinese state are convinced that Belarus is a respectable and serious partner,” the Belarusian head of state said.

“China needs a friendly country in Europe. You are welcome to use the opportunities in Belarus as the center of Europe. Let us maintain mutually beneficial cooperation,” the Belarusian President said. In his opinion, the Chinese President is in favor of this approach.

“Moreover, Chinese people are very cautious, they will never cooperate with troubled states,” the Belarusian leader said. According to Aleksandr Lukashenko, Belarus does not have problems with anyone, and the Chinese side appreciates that.

The Belarusian head of state emphasized that Belarus has always maintained friendly relations with China.

“I like this approach of Chinese authorities. We have the same approach. We should never create problems for anyone. We are not against anyone, our friendship benefits our people,” the President remarked.

Therefore, we are good friends with China, China has a friendly country in the center of Europe, the Belarusian head of state emphasized.

Aleksandr Lukashenko answered a number of questions regarding Belarus’ social and economic development, Victory Day celebrations in Belarus and China, a number of topical international issues, the prospects of Belarus-China humanitarian cooperation.
