Greetings to participants of 14th Congress of Belarusian Union of Journalists
Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko has sent greetings to the delegates and participants of the 14th Congress of the Belarusian Union of Journalists.
“Today the society is facing a global challenge. The era of post-truth and fake news destroys classic norms and principles of professional journalism. It turns the information media space into a battle field of political interests, and Belarus is in the center of it,” the head of state said. “Mass media, including the so-called new media, become the instrument of fulfilling the ambitions of unfair politicians and political strategists. Neglecting such ethical norms as objectivity, honesty, morality, they jeopardize our historical, cultural, universal human values, the information sovereignty and statehood.”
The President expressed confidence that journalists are capable of finding an adequate and professional response to the aggressive and destructive influence on the minds of Belarusians. “This is our defense line, and in the year of the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory we must defend it together. In honor of our ancestors, who ensured peace and freedom on our native land, we must protect people from extremism and radicalism of the new time,” Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed.
The Belarusian leader wished the delegates and participants of the congress of the Belarusian Union of Journalists strength, health and energy in reaching professional heights and every success in the resolution of strategic tasks of national security.
